Thyroid & iodine
Free T4 (thyroxine) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
The main thyroid hormone in its free form.
Optimal range
13–22 pmol/L
How a value is read
| Deficient | < 12 pmol/L |
| Below optimal | 12 – 13 pmol/L |
| Optimal | 13 – 22 pmol/L |
| Above optimal | 22 – 24 pmol/L |
| Markedly high | > 24 pmol/L |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
A direct thyroid hormone; with TSH it clarifies thyroid function. Low T4 with high TSH is hypothyroidism, which iodine/selenium shortfalls in vegans can drive.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
