Omega-3

Omega-3 index — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians

Percentage of long-chain omega-3s in red-cell membranes.

Optimal range

8–12 %

How a value is read

Deficient< 4 %
Below optimal4 – 8 %
Optimal8 – 12 %
Above optimal12 – 14 %
Markedly high> 14 %

Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.

Why it matters on a plant-based diet

Share of EPA+DHA in red-cell membranes. Often low in vegans because ALA→EPA/DHA conversion is limited. Target ≥8%; algae oil helps.

A single marker decides nothing

Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
