Vitamin D

Vitamin D (25-OH) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians

The storage form of vitamin D in blood.

Optimal range

30–60 ng/mL

How a value is read

Deficient< 20 ng/mL
Below optimal20 – 30 ng/mL
Optimal30 – 60 ng/mL
Above optimal60 – 100 ng/mL
Markedly high> 100 ng/mL

Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.

Why it matters on a plant-based diet

Nearly absent from plant foods; vegans usually need lichen-derived D3 or D2. Magnesium is a cofactor for activating vitamin D — low magnesium blunts supplementation.

A single marker decides nothing

Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
