Metabolic (blood sugar)
Fasting insulin — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
The sugar-regulating hormone; a marker of insulin resistance.
Optimal range
≤ 8 µIU/mL
How a value is read
| Optimal | ≤ 8 µIU/mL |
| Above optimal | 8 – 12 µIU/mL |
| Markedly high | > 12 µIU/mL |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
An early insulin-resistance marker — often rises LONG before glucose and HbA1c. Can climb in 'junk-food vegans' (refined carbs, low activity). Fasting optimum is under 8.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
Analyse my labsUnits
- µIU/mL
- pmol/L× 0.144 → µIU/mL
VEGALYSIS accepts any of these units and converts the value to the canonical one.
