Iron
Soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
Reflects tissue demand for iron (higher = greater shortfall).
Optimal range
≤ 4.5 mg/L
How a value is read
| Optimal | ≤ 4.5 mg/L |
| Above optimal | 4.5 – 6 mg/L |
| Markedly high | > 6 mg/L |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
The best marker of tissue iron deficiency: unlike ferritin, it is NOT affected by inflammation. It rises when iron is short. Especially useful when CRP is high and ferritin is unreliable.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
