Iron
Ferritin — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
The protein reflecting the body's iron stores.
Optimal range
50–200 ng/mL (µg/L)
How a value is read
| Deficient | < 30 ng/mL (µg/L) |
| Below optimal | 30 – 50 ng/mL (µg/L) |
| Optimal | 50 – 200 ng/mL (µg/L) |
| Above optimal | 200 – 300 ng/mL (µg/L) |
| Markedly high | > 300 ng/mL (µg/L) |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
The main iron-stores marker. Vegans absorb non-heme iron less efficiently. Ferritin is an acute-phase protein: with inflammation (high CRP) it is falsely elevated and can hide a deficiency.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
