Iron
Transferrin saturation (TSAT) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
Ratio of serum iron to total iron-binding capacity.
Optimal range
25–45 %
How a value is read
| Deficient | < 20 % |
| Below optimal | 20 – 25 % |
| Optimal | 25 – 45 % |
| Above optimal | 45 – 50 % |
| Markedly high | > 50 % |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
Shows the share of transferrin loaded with iron. Low saturation (<20%) confirms iron deficiency even when ferritin is borderline.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
