Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 (serum) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
Total circulating B12, of which only ~20% is metabolically active.
Optimal range
295–1100 pmol/L
How a value is read
| Deficient | < 148 pmol/L |
| Below optimal | 148 – 295 pmol/L |
| Optimal | 295 – 1100 pmol/L |
| Above optimal | > 1100 pmol/L |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
B12 is absent from plant foods — the key vegan marker. Yet serum B12 is unreliable and often normal despite deficiency: confirm with active-B12 (holotranscobalamin), MMA and homocysteine.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.

- pg/mL (ng/L)× 0.738 → pmol/L
VEGALYSIS accepts any of these units and converts the value to the canonical one.
