Kidney

Creatinine — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians

A kidney-function marker, dependent on muscle mass.

Optimal range

≤ 1.3 mg/dL

How a value is read

Optimal≤ 1.3 mg/dL
Above optimal1.3 – 1.5 mg/dL
Markedly high> 1.5 mg/dL

Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.

Why it matters on a plant-based diet

A breakdown product of muscle creatine. Often LOWER than the range in vegans — from lower creatine intake (no meat) and sometimes less muscle; this is not disease. High creatinine warrants a kidney check.

A single marker decides nothing

Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
