Kidney
Urea (BUN) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
A nitrogen waste product of protein.
Optimal range
≤ 20 mg/dL
How a value is read
| Optimal | ≤ 20 mg/dL |
| Above optimal | 20 – 25 mg/dL |
| Markedly high | > 25 mg/dL |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
A protein-metabolism product. Can be lower in vegans (less protein); high urea suggests dehydration or kidney issues.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
