Kidney
Cystatin C — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
A protein marker of kidney filtration, independent of muscle.
Optimal range
≤ 1 mg/L
How a value is read
| Optimal | ≤ 1 mg/L |
| Above optimal | 1 – 1.3 mg/L |
| Markedly high | > 1.3 mg/L |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
The best kidney estimate for vegans: independent of muscle mass and meat intake (unlike creatinine). When creatinine is low, cystatin C gives an honest picture of kidney function.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
