Lipids (cholesterol)
HDL cholesterol — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
High-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
Optimal range
50–100 mg/dL
How a value is read
| Deficient | < 40 mg/dL |
| Below optimal | 40 – 50 mg/dL |
| Optimal | 50 – 100 mg/dL |
| Above optimal | 100 – 120 mg/dL |
| Markedly high | > 120 mg/dL |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
Here higher is better: low HDL (<40) is a risk factor. Some vegans run lower; physical activity and healthy fats (nuts, olive oil, avocado) help.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
