Calcium (serum) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians
Blood calcium level (homeostatically stable).
Optimal range
8.8–10.2 mg/dL
How a value is read
| Deficient | < 8.5 mg/dL |
| Below optimal | 8.5 – 8.8 mg/dL |
| Optimal | 8.8 – 10.2 mg/dL |
| Above optimal | 10.2 – 10.6 mg/dL |
| Markedly high | > 10.6 mg/dL |
Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.
Why it matters on a plant-based diet
Important: serum calcium is tightly regulated and does NOT reflect calcium intake or bone health. Bone status is assessed via PTH + vitamin D.
A single marker decides nothing
Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
