Magnesium (serum) — optimal range for vegans & vegetarians

An electrolyte involved in 300+ enzymatic reactions.

Optimal range

1.9–2.4 mg/dL

How a value is read

Deficient< 1.7 mg/dL
Below optimal1.7 – 1.9 mg/dL
Optimal1.9 – 2.4 mg/dL
Above optimal2.4 – 2.6 mg/dL
Markedly high> 2.6 mg/dL

Bands are given in the marker's canonical unit; values in other units are converted automatically.

Why it matters on a plant-based diet

Serum magnesium is insensitive (the body keeps it stable), so even low-normal values matter. Magnesium is a cofactor for activating vitamin D.

A single marker decides nothing

Deficiencies mask one another: high folate hides low B12, inflammation inflates ferritin, low zinc mimics iron deficiency. VEGALYSIS reads the whole picture and explains the links.
